What you see here is an unusual painting. Butterflies are so delicate they almost command the artist to use the thinnest paint and the finest brushes. Instead the paint was mostly applied in heavy handed fashion with palette knife. The paint was trowelled onto the canvas. This was one of my earliest ventures into using non-traditional paint and with good lighting the work glows. Butterflies are under threat all over the world with many species on the verge of extinction. Butterfly collectors are not the reason. The biggest problem is modern farming methods combined with pesticides and herbicides - the business end of Chemical Winter. No one is telling the caterpillars to wash their food.
You don't realize how versatile songs written by the Beatles were until you start applying music to other venues. This Buckeye (Junonia coenia) is showing clear signs of wear and tear as where the wing scales have rubbed off possibly from having been caught and released. You can't get much simpler or more to the point than LET IT BE:
